Kid safety is our top priority. To ensure safe, friendly, and positive interactions, players can communicate using only pre-authored phrases and kid-appropriate emojis. There is no method to directly communicate or send custom text messages to other players.

Kids can run around as a monster in the virtual world and see their friends’ monsters. They can play games together, explore the world and build new maps together. Communication is strictly limited to pre-authored phrases and emojis (as noted above).
Are parents involved? How can I play together with my child?
Dojo Islands is primarily designed for kids and their friends. However, your child can invite you as a guest to join them in the game. You will be able to play with your child, including any game maps they have built, but you won’t be able to build any content yourself. See the section above “Can my child play with friends or siblings who don’t have ClassDojo accounts?” for more info on how to invite a guest.
What is the Global Playground in Home Islands?
The Global Playground lets your child join a safe, shared play space in Dojo Islands—even when their friends aren’t online. It connects them with other players who are online, so there's always someone to play with.
This shared experience is limited to a small area of the island, where kids can take part in activities and games we’ve specifically designed for collaborative play. There’s no freeform chat, no messaging, and no sharing of personal information. Kids interact using a small set of kid-appropriate emojis and preselected phrases—like waving or saying “Let’s go!”—to keep things fun and safe.
What do other players see about my child in the Global Playground?
When your child plays in the Global Playground, other players can see their monster avatar and a random, playful display name that we provide (ex: FlyingEmu). This name is temporary and not stored or linked to your child’s real name, ClassDojo profile, or account in any way.

How do you create your own game maps?
Every child has their own “Pocket World” they can travel to, where they can build custom maps to be used during games. Other kids can also enter your child’s pocket world, watch what is being built, and play on the map your child created. If your child chooses to, they can allow their friends to help them build by toggling on Team Build.
When your child creates a map, it can only be seen by your child and their friends in the same Haven. This map is not used anywhere else in the game and is not shared publicly.
How do you enter the Pocket World to access the Build Zone?
To enter the Pocket World:
-
Move to a location where you would like to place the Gateway
- Select the Pocket World Gateway button on the top left
- When you place the Gateway, you will be transported to the Pocket World!
- Upon arriving in the Pocket World, move forward to enter the Build Zone, where you can build your own map
How can you play a game on the map you created?
Tag games (Freeze Tag, Zombie Tag, Chicken Tag) are the only game types that currently support user-generated maps. We will be adding support for other games and activities in the future.
After creating a map in the Pocket World, you can play a game using the map by following these steps:
- If you are still in the Pocket World, exit the Pocket World by going through the gateway, in the location where you first entered
- Navigate to the Activity Arena sign
-
When the game selection screen appears, select Freeze Tag, Zombie Tag, or Chicken Tag
- Note: Tag requires at least two players to be present on the Island to play
- Proceed to the next screen and select the map
- The other player(s) on the island will get a notification to join the game
How can kids work together to build maps in Home Islands?
When you enter your Pocket World and walk over to the build zone, a panel will appear on the top right corner of the screen.
Select the left button to toggle on Team Build. This will allow your friends to help build your map with you. NOTE: Only members of the same Haven can build together - this is not available to guests. Tap the same button again to turn off Team Build.
Select the right button to enable Flying Camera, which allows you to build anywhere in the zone, without having to move your monster.

Are there third-party ads in Dojo Islands?
No, there are no third-party ads in Dojo Islands. Our goal is to maintain a safe environment for kids to learn, explore, and have fun.
Is Dojo Islands educational?
We believe kids learn through a variety of ways, both inside and outside the classroom, with peers and by themselves. On Dojo Islands, kids learn through play while engaging their natural curiosity and creativity.
By exploring the virtual world around them and tackling challenges with friends, they practice teamwork and social interaction. When building parts of the world and game maps themselves, they explore new ideas and develop creative problem-solving skills.
Dojo Islands in the classroom currently features a math zone called Number Shores. We aim to bring more educational content like this to Home Islands in the future.
How much does Dojo Islands cost?
Dojo Islands is free to join and play, with no limits. Going forward, our goal is to keep this free for teachers and schools to use in the classroom. To do so, we will likely add some optional premium content that is kid-appropriate to Home Islands in the future.
What is the difference between Home Islands and Class Islands?
Class Islands brings the whole class together in one shared space. Students build together in a shared build zone and engage in activities with all of their classmates, such as the Number Shores math activity. Teachers control access for Class Islands and can run structured activities or offer open play time. Class Islands will always be free for teachers and schools, and every kid will have access to the same content.
In Home Islands, kids can create their own island called a Haven and choose which friends to invite (think of it as a clubhouse). This can consist of a small group of close friends or a larger gathering with their entire class. Each child in the Haven gets their own personal zone where they can build maps and games. Additionally, there are central activity areas where kids play games and activities together, including the games they created! Parents control the settings on Home Islands—letting you choose when they play and who they play with.
