Family Chat FAQ for Teachers

ClassDojo's Family Chat feature is a wonderful tool that fosters communication and connection among families within your classroom community. This feature allows parents and guardians to easily reach out to one another, share updates, and organize activities, enhancing the sense of community and collaboration. To help you get the most out of this feature, we've put together a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) to address any questions and provide detailed guidance. Q. What is Family Chat?

A. If your school chooses to enable Family Chat, families in your class will now be able to plan playdates, coordinate carpools, send birthday party invites, and more via ClassDojo messaging. 

Q. How will Family Chat help teachers?

The #1 thing we hear from teachers? They’re excited not to be the middleman for families looking to communicate! Teachers also tell us they’re happy for students to have more socialization opportunities with their classmates and to foster a closer-knit classroom community.

Q. How will Family Chat help families?

A. The #1 thing families want to do is plan playdates for their kids! They also want to send birthday party invites, help with coordination for school events, plan teacher gifts 😉, and more.

Q. Can families choose not to participate?

A. Families can block other families from messaging them, which will keep them hidden in the contact list. If a family doesn’t wish to be messaged by other families, then they can block the other families in the class.

Q. How will Family Chat work?

A. From the ClassDojo app or website, families will tap Messages, tap the compose message icon, and then select from any of the other families in their kid’s class. Nothing will change about how teachers and families message each other! Here is an example of what this will look like for families: 

Q. How are you keeping things kind?

A. Families will need to agree to our Community Guidelines around communicating kindly before they can message another family. Families can also report messages to our ClassDojo moderation team and block other families from contacting them.

Q. How do I enable Family Chat?
