Curious about how rostering works or what student linking means? Find out more here.
How should I handle students who are "Ready for Linking"?
You should be able to link all of these students.
Students with this designation have a single high-confidence match. The match is between the student’s full name and either parent's full name, email, or phone number.
How should I handle students with "Partial Matches"?
You can quickly review and link most of these students.
A partial match matches the student's first name and any of the student's last name, parent's full name, parent's email, or parent's phone number. Most, >95%, of these should be correct. Look for exceptional circumstances, like if two students at the same school have the same name.
How should I handle students with "Multiple matches"?
Pick one to link.
Link the students you want to keep. We recommend linking ones with families attached so they will not need to reconnect during back-to-school. In rare cases, none of the potential matches may be appropriate to link.
How should I handle students with "No matches"?
Search for matches.
Search for matches that the tool didn’t find, like students who go by a nickname. Skip cases where students are not in ClassDojo. They will be added to your school automatically when roster syncing is turned on.
How should I handle "Active students not found in the SIS"?
You can ignore these or contact your SIS administrator.
Without a link, these students will be archived when roster syncing is turned on. In many cases, that is okay. For example, perhaps a student has moved and hasn't been removed from the ClassDojo School Directory yet. If a matching student is not in the SIS but should be, please contact your district administrator to be sure they get added.
How should I handle "Inactive students not found in the SIS"?
You can ignore these students.
Without a link, these students will be archived when roster syncing is turned on. Generally, this is ok for inactive students, most of whom are no longer at your school. If you see some that should be in the SIS, please contact your district administrator to be sure they get added.
Why am I seeing 3+ family members for most students in the SIS?
Your district needs to update the list of families shared by your SIS. Please report this to them, but continue linking anyway.
In some cases, ClassDojo may receive emergency contacts or other adults associated with a child in addition to parents and guardians. This should be corrected. If you see many students with more family members than expected, please inform us so we can fix it. You can write to your district administrator, write to ClassDojo support (see the link at the bottom of this page), or mention it during your 1:1 School Leader meeting. We’ll be sure to correct this before the school year starts, and you can proceed with linking in the meantime.
Why is a student’s class year incorrect?
Sometimes teachers enter it wrong.
The year (grade level) of students on ClassDojo is based on what year teachers selected when they created a class. Sometimes, teachers enter this inaccurately or have mixed-grade classes, so it may not be accurate.
Why am I seeing more "ready to match" students after clicking "link all"?
Sometimes resolving matches reveals more high-confidence ones.
This is an exceptional case, but safe to link. For example, imagine you have two students, Briana Guerrero and Briana Guerrero Cuevas, in both the SIS and ClassDojo. In this case, because of her extra last name, Briana Guerrero Cuevas in the SIS will only match Briana Guerrero Cuevas in ClassDojo in the first round. But Briana Guerrero will appear in the multiple match category until the first round of matching completes, after which she will only have one match remaining and therefore may move into "ready for linking," provided the family also matches.
How can I get more help?
Write to support or schedule a call.
For quick questions, please submit a HelpDesk request using the link at the bottom of this page.
Otherwise, we’d be happy to provide more in-depth support during a setup call. Each participating school in partner districts should have a 1:1 meeting with the ClassDojo team to help you have a great rollout next year. We can help you with linking questions and any other support you need. If you have not booked a call yet, book it here: ClassDojo Rostering Support.
