Rostering syncs ClassDojo with your Student Information System (SIS) to automatically manage your school, saving you time! Wondering if your school is set up for rostering? Start here. For information on the benefits of rostering or guidance once rostering is live, click here.
When will rostering start?
If your school is enabling rostering, it will likely start at the beginning of the school year. Your district leaders should be in touch with more specific timelines.
Will I keep my data?
Most data will be maintained in the migration, but there are some nuances to be aware of:
| Data Type | Maintained through Migration |
| Students | ⚠️ Only if linked |
| Staff | ✅ Yes |
| Parents | ⚠️ Needs student linked |
| Classes |
⚠️ Archived |
Classes
Once rostering is enabled, we will automatically archive all of your existing classes.
Rostering creates classes from your SIS, complete with your co-teachers and students as appropriate. It will even update your classes automatically, which could save you substantial time. We encourage you to use your rostered classes for a seamless experience.
As part of the migration to rostering, we’ll archive all of your existing classes to give you a clean slate. If this is a problem, class owners can always unarchive old classes and continue to use them.
Students & Parents
Rostering will automatically create and manage the students in your School Directory, importing them from your SIS. You’ll never see a duplicate student again, and every student on ClassDojo will match an SIS record one-to-one.
To support this, your school’s Student Directory needs to be updated so that each existing Student Directory record has a single match to an SIS student record.
⚠️ Without linking existing records, student accounts will be reset, history will be lost, and all families will need to reconnect (though families will keep their existing accounts).
That's why we are supporting schools that wish to link existing students on ClassDojo to the SIS. When we turn on rostering, linked students will be preserved, history will be kept, and families will not need to reconnect. Schools that link will save time and reach more families.
🎯 Schools that wish to link and keep existing students and families should have a school Admin visit our Student Linking Tool and link records sometime before we turn on roster syncing for your district (this will often occur a few weeks before teachers return for the new school year).
