How to Allow a Website Through Apple's Screen Time Filter (iPhone & iPad)

If a website is being blocked by Apple's Screen Time web content filter—for example, if your child can't open ClassDojo on their iPhone or iPad—you can add the website to Apple's Always Allow list. This lets the site load normally while keeping your other Screen Time restrictions in place.

This article applies to iPhone and iPad (iOS/iPadOS) only. Android devices use Google Family Link instead, so these steps won't apply.

📌 You'll need the Screen Time passcode that was created by the parent or Family Sharing organizer before you can make these changes.

Before You Start

Keep these tips in mind before adding a website:

  • Enter the website exactly as written. Even a small typo can prevent it from working.
  • One change covers every browser. On iPhone and iPad, Safari, Chrome, and other browsers all use Apple's Screen Time web filter.
  • School-managed devices may be different. If your iPhone or iPad is managed by a school or district, their settings may override your allow list. If that happens, contact your school's IT department.

Allow a Website Through Screen Time

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Screen Time.
    • If Screen Time isn't already enabled, turn it on and create a 4-digit Screen Time passcode.
  3. Enter your Screen Time passcode when prompted.
  4. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  5. Turn Content & Privacy Restrictions On if they're not already enabled.
  6. Tap Content Restrictions.
  7. Tap Web Content.

You'll see one of these options:

  • Unrestricted Access
  • Limit Adult Websites
  • Allowed Websites Only

If You're Using "Limit Adult Websites"

  1. Under Always Allow, tap Add Website.
  2. Enter the full website address (for example, https://classdojo.com).
  3. Tap Done.

If You're Using "Allowed Websites Only"

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the allowed websites list and tap Add Website.
  2. Enter a Title.
  3. Enter the full website address.
  4. Tap Done.

📌 "Allowed Websites Only" works as a whitelist. Any website that isn't on the list will remain blocked.

Test the Website

Open Safari, Chrome, or another browser and visit the website.

If it's still blocked:

  1. Go to Settings > Safari.
  2. Tap Clear History and Website Data.
  3. Restart your browser and try again.

Apply These Settings to a Child Using Family Sharing (Optional)

If you manage your child's device with Family Sharing:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap your Apple ID.
  3. Tap Family Sharing.
  4. Select your child.
  5. Tap Screen Time.
  6. Make your changes.

📌 The updated settings will automatically apply to your child's devices.

Remove an Allowed Website

To remove a website later:

  1. Return to the Web Content settings.
  2. Find the website in your allow list.
  3. Swipe left on the website.
  4. Tap Delete.

Troubleshooting

Problem Try This
The website is still blocked. Make sure you added the website under Always Allow, not Never Allow. Double-check the website address for typos, then restart the device.
I forgot my Screen Time passcode. On iOS 17 or later, go to Settings > Screen Time > Change Screen Time Passcode > Forgot Passcode? Then sign in with the Apple ID that was used to create the passcode.
My child keeps changing the settings. Turn on Use Screen Time Passcode and don't share the passcode. You can also disable Account Changes under Content & Privacy Restrictions.

That's It!

Once you've added the website to Always Allow—or to the allow list when using Allowed Websites Only—it will load normally while your other Screen Time restrictions remain in place. 🎉
