Add or Create a Class

Setting up a class on ClassDojo is simple and fun! Whether you're new to the platform or an experienced user, creating a class will only take a few minutes. With ClassDojo, you can easily manage your classroom, communicate with parents, and track student progress. Follow these easy steps to create your class and start making learning even more engaging and interactive for your students!

Please note: It is important that after you create your account, you request to join your school and get school-approved before you start creating classes. Once you are school-approved, you can access your School Directory and import students from your School DIrectory directly into your class. This saves you time because the parent connections will be automatically added as well. If you add students to your class before you get school-approved, it can result in creating duplicate student listings. 

From the Web

  1. Click on the "+ New Class" tile
  2. Enter a name for your class and select your class grade level or year
  3. Click the “Create” button
  4. Invite co-teachers to join your class by typing in their email address or searching through the populated list of teacher names from your Directory. If you don't wish to add co-teachers at this time, tap "I don't have co-teachers"
  5. From your new class, click on the “+ Add students” tile
  6. Enter a student's first and last name.  You'll see a drop-down menu appear. If there's a matching student in the Student Directory you'll see a "Matches from School Directory" notice above the name of the student and the name of the last class the student was in (or the current class they are in).  Below that will be an "Add [student’s name]" option. Selecting the option with the class name will import from the School Directory, selecting the "Add [student’s name]" option will add the student as new.  If you're connected to a school, students who are already in your School Directory should auto-populate as you enter the first few letters of their name. 

From the app (iOS and Android)

  1. From your dashboard, tap on the "+ Add class" button below your current class list
  2. Name your class, set your grade level, choose your preference for sharing points  with parents, then tap on the "Next" button
  3. Select “Add students” from the prompt, or tap on the “+ Student” button from within your new class, to begin adding students to your class
  4. Add your students by entering their first and last name.  Tap on the matching name from the drop-down menu to add the student from the School Directory, or tap on the "Add (student name)" to add the student as new. Then, select “Done”. 🎉
