We have a new messaging feature that allows students in grades 6-12 to be included in messages with their teachers! Teachers and students can communicate directly in ClassDojo- one-on-one or in groups. It's built for middle and high school and is designed to help teachers keep students engaged, informed, and supported.
Students in grades 9-12 can communicate directly in ClassDojo, one-on-one or in groups. Students in grades 6-8 can be included in messages with their parent(s)/guardian(s).

Getting Started
Q. Who can use Student Messaging?
A. This feature is available to rostered schools in partner districts. Interested in this feature? Reach out to your ClassDojo Partner or fill out a request here.
Q. Who controls access to this feature?
A. District leaders can enable or disable the Student Messaging toggle for middle and high schools in their district.
Once the toggle has been enabled at the school level, the feature will be enabled at the school and within 6-12 grade level classes. School Leaders can always enable or disable access at the school level, and teachers can manage access at the class level!
*Teachers must initiate chats with students.
Q. How do I turn this feature on or off?
School leaders: Go to your school settings and toggle Teacher-student chats on or off. Turning it off will close all current chats.

Messaging Permissions
Q. Who can message students?
A. Teachers, coaches, and staff connected to a class can message students in grades 9-12—either one-on-one or in groups with students in their classes.
Students in grades 6-8 can be included in messages with their parent(s)/guardian(s).
Q. Can students message other students?
A. Not at this time. Students can only participate in group chats that include a teacher.
Q. Can teachers message students and a connected family member together in a group chat?
A. Yes! If enabled by the district and school, teachers and connected family members can create chats with students in Grades 6-12. To chat with 6th-8th-grade students, a connected family member must be in the chat thread.
Safety & Privacy
Q. Can teachers, family members, or students delete messages?
A. Teachers can delete their own messages, student messages, or family messages and report them to ClassDojo's Trust and Safety Team.

Q. What happens if a student, teacher, or family member sends a concerning message?
A. Keeping ClassDojo and school communities safe is a shared responsibility. If you’re in a situation you believe should be reported to school personnel, please contact the appropriate School or District Leader. Q. Can message history be accessed?
A. Teachers can download their own message history.
A. Families can download their own message history. As well as history for their students in grades 10 and below.
A. School and district leaders can view and export message history that includes all deleted messages. Reach out to your ClassDojo Partner for access to this feature.
Notifications
Q. Will teachers, family members, and students get notifications for new messages?
A. Yes. Teachers, family members, and students can opt in to receive push notifications for new messages, and quiet hours still apply. Students can also receive browser notifications on their Chromebooks for new messages.
How do students log in?
Students in participating districts can set up their accounts in three ways:
- Email invitation: Students receive an email invitation from their teacher and follow the link to join their school on ClassDojo. If a student can't find the email, ask them to check their spam or junk folder. Teachers can resend the invitation from their class settings.
- Mobile app: Students download the ClassDojo app, tap "I'm a student," then tap "Sign in with school account" to log in with their school credentials.
- ClassDojo.com: Students go to ClassDojo.com, select "Get started" as a Student, and log in with Google. Note: In schools using Microsoft, students can log in at https://student.classdojo.com/#/login/microsoft.
