Teacher to Student Message Flagging FAQ

To help keep Teacher-to-Student Messaging safe, ClassDojo uses automated detection tools to scan messages between teachers and students for potentially illegal content or safety concerns. This FAQ explains what gets scanned, who is notified, and how School and District Leaders can take action.

Q. Which messages in ClassDojo are scanned for safety?
A. We scan all text in messages between teachers and students, including 1:1 messages and group messages. The written text in messages between teachers and families is not scanned, but media uploads across ClassDojo’s products (including those uploaded in messages) are. You can learn more here.

Q. Who is notified when a message is flagged?
A. District Leaders and School Leaders with admin Messaging permissions receive an email when a message from their school is flagged for review.

Q. What actions can District or School Leaders take on a flagged message?
A. Message reviewers can:

  • Export the message thread to review the context
  • Mark the flag as Resolved (for example, if the issue was handled offline)
  • Mark the flag as No issue if it was a false positive
  • Reopen a previously resolved flag by moving it back to Flagged

Q. Is there an audit log for flagged messages?
A. Yes. Each flagged message includes a visible log showing all actions taken, along with who took them and when.

Q. What if I see a concerning message, and I’m not sure if it was flagged?
A.  Keeping ClassDojo and school communities safe is a shared responsibility. If you’re in a situation you believe should be reported to school personnel, please contact the appropriate School or District Leader. For guidance on reporting any illegal or potentially harmful messaging content on ClassDojo, please see this article.
