District Announcements FAQ for District Leaders

What is the District Announcements feature?

District Announcements allow district leaders to send one-way messages to all families and staff through ClassDojo—delivered via the ClassDojo app, email, phone call, SMS, and your district's Facebook page. Authorized district staff can log into the District Portal to share important updates across all schools, helping ensure communication is consistent, timely, and easy. Announcements are plain text (no bold or italic formatting), but can include attachments to provide additional context or resources.

Where do I find District Announcements?

District Announcements are available in the District Portal, which you can access from your School Switcher dropdown in ClassDojo.

How many attachments can I include?

You can include up to 10 attachments in a single announcement. Supported file types include:

  • Photos & Videos: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .tiff, .heic, .mp4, .webm
  • Documents: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, .txt, .rtf, .csv

What does the email version of an announcement look like?

The email includes the full text of the announcement, with any images displayed in-line—ideal for recipients who may not be using the ClassDojo app. If you are attaching a video to an email, a best practice is to include a thumbnail image to the email and then include the link to YouTube, Vimeo, or other website where the video is hosted. Videos can’t be played inside of email.

  • Subject line: Up to 80 characters (required)
  • Message body: Up to 10,000 characters
  • Attachments: Displayed in-line where possible

What does the SMS (text) version of an announcement look like?

Districts with SMS enabled as part of their partnership can also choose to send the announcement via text. The SMS version includes a short preview and a link where families can view the full message.

How do phone calls work?

Districts with Phone Calls enabled can broadcast recorded announcements to families. Administrators provide the message text, which is converted to speech for the recipients. A single voice message can be up to 90 seconds long.

How do SMS and phone call credits work?

Credits are consumed based on the number of recipients per broadcast:

SMS: One credit per recipient.
Phone Calls: One credit per recipient.

Managing Your Balance
If a district exceeds its allotted credits, services will not be interrupted; however, the account will reflect a negative balance. To top up your credits or discuss your limit, please contact your Account Manager.

Can I share District Announcements to social media?

Yes! District Leaders can now share announcements directly to the Facebook Pages they manage. When drafting an announcement, you can connect your Facebook account with Admin or Editor permissions and select which Page(s) you would like to post to.

Please note: Posting to other social media networks like Instagram or X is not currently supported.

Why don't I see my Facebook Page listed when trying to post?

  • First, ensure that your connected Facebook account has an Admin or Editor role for that specific Page.

  • If you have the correct permissions and the page you're looking for is still missing:

    1. Click on your profile icon, then go to your Facebook settings

    2. On the left of your screen, scroll down to  the "Business integrations" section

    3. Disconnect ClassDojo from your Facebook account by clicking "Remove"

    4. Log in to your ClassDojo account and reconnect your Facebook profile. When you reconnect, be sure to click ‘edit’ to manually select the pages you want to view.

Who receives announcements?

Anyone already connected to a school or classroom in ClassDojo—whether through rostering or manual setup—will receive the announcement through the ClassDojo app or email. SMS delivery will also be available soon.

  • All teachers and staff rostered through your district’s Student Information System (SIS)
  • All connected families in ClassDojo (including those already using the app and those who have their email address added through rostering)

 How do Recipient Lists work?

ClassDojo provides default distribution lists to make sending announcements even easier. You can also create custom lists using anyone in your district’s Directory. These include:

  • All Families
  • All Staff
  • All @ [School Name]

Note: Every announcement must have a selected Recipient List. Only users included in that list will receive the message.

How do I create custom lists?

Districts will be provided with default distribution lists that include all families and all staff. However, you can also create custom lists by following these steps:

  1. Under Lists, click New List
  2. Choose whether to send to select schools and audience or a list of emails
  3. Name the List
  4. Save

You can also edit a custom list by selecting a list and clicking the pencil icon in the top-right corner.

What about rostered districts?

For districts using ClassDojo’s rostering process, recipient lists can be created based on rostered users from your SIS—even if those users aren’t yet listed in the Directory.

How can I get my district rostered?

Rostering via your SIS is available through the ClassDojo for Districts program, and it allows districts to connect their ClassDojo instance to their SIS for seamless setup and easy maintenance of student and staff records. To roster your district, book a call.
