What happens to school data at the end of the school year?
ClassDojo will pause syncing prior to the last day of school to ensure that school data stays preserved in ClassDojo over the summer.
- Summer Communication: Because data is preserved, teachers and guardians can continue to communicate throughout the summer months.
- Manual Class Archiving: If a teacher prefers to end communication earlier, they can manually archive their class at any time once the school year concludes.
- Automatic Class Archiving: If classes are not manually archived, ClassDojo will automatically archive all previous classes once syncing is re-enabled for the start of the new school year.
Is ClassDojo usable over the summer?
Yes. Since ClassDojo pauses the sync before the school year ends, all existing data remains available and intact.
- SIS Syncing: During the summer, data will not be updated by your SIS. This means any changes made in your district's database won't reflect in ClassDojo until syncing resumes.
- Manual Control: While teachers cannot add or remove students from the official school directory, they retain full manual control over their classes. They can still create custom classes, add existing students to them, and message families.
- Data Consistency: All class history, stories, and messaging remain accessible to ensure a smooth transition between school years.
What happens to ClassDojo data when we prepare to sync for next year?
On your chosen date, ClassDojo will unpause your integration. When the first sync of the new school year triggers, the following actions occur automatically:
- Directory Cleanup: Any students who have graduated or transferred out of the district are automatically archived from the school directory.
- New Data Import: Students and classes are added to the school directory. Teachers are assigned to their classes and (if applicable) new teachers are sent invites to join.
- Automatic Archiving: All classes from the previous year are archived.
While the first sync focuses on setting up the framework (accounts and classes), the second sync populates the system with specific connections:
- Student Enrollments: Students are officially added to their respective classes based on your SIS data.
- (If applicable) Guardian Invites: ClassDojo will automatically generate and send invites to guardians, connecting families to their students' new classes for the upcoming year.
This process ensures your school starts the new year with a clean slate while preserving historical data in your archives.
