We know that communication is the heart of a healthy classroom, so ClassDojo supports translation into over 130 languages!
Our system recognizes three different language preferences: account language, communication language, and content language. Account language and communication language dictate the headings on our app or website and the language used in emails sent to a user. These languages are limited.
However, we have also integrated a content language setting, which dictates how users translate posts and messages that have been shared. Thanks to integration with Google Translate, we are able to translate messages and posts to over 130 languages. Learn how to update your language settings from the web, iOS, and Android devices below!
Please note: In order for the translation feature to be triggered both users need to have their languages set correctly. We highly recommend sharing this article with any families who are having trouble updating their accounts.
From the Web
First, please make sure your browser language is set correctly. ClassDojo is optimized to work with the most updated version of Google Chrome. You can learn more about how to update your browser language on Chrome here.
In addition, you will need to check your language settings from your ClassDojo account. Here is how to do this:
- Click on your profile picture in the upper right corner and select "Account Settings"
- Click on the "Language and Region" tab on the left
- Set your preferred Language and Translation settings. If you do not set a translation setting, your account will default to English
- Close the window and your settings will automatically save
iOS
If you're using the iPhone app, you can now set a different language for each of the following:
- App - sets the language for the iOS app itself, configured in your iPhone settings
- Content - sets one of 132 languages as the default for the "see translation" button in story posts and messages. This also sets your default language for the content you send; we will no longer detect the language of a message but rather use this setting.
- Communications - sets the language for push and email notifications sent to you outside the app
Here's how to adjust your language settings:
- Scroll down to the bottom of the app landing screen and select "Account settings"
- Tap on the language setting you'd like to change. Selecting "App language" will direct you out of the app into your iPhone Settings
- Tap on the language you'd like to set. You'll see a check mark to the right of the row. Click the back arrow in the upper left corner to return to the "Account settings" menu
Android
Our Android app infers your language from your device settings. You can learn more about how to set your device language here:
If you need to update your Translation or Communication settings, this can only be done from the website at this time. If you are not able to access a computer, you can use the mobile website to update this setting.
