ClassDojo Community Guidelines

At ClassDojo, our mission is to give kids an education they love, and part of that means giving our users a place where they feel safe engaging with each other. These guidelines set out the standards we expect all users to adhere to when using ClassDojo, based on our Terms of Service. They also set out the types of content and conduct that are not acceptable on our service. For a kid-friendly version of these guidelines, please see this article. Our Guidelines are split into three core principles:

  • Do Not Use ClassDojo to Break the Law
  • Respect Your Fellow Users on ClassDojo
  • Respect the ClassDojo Platform

Do Not Use the ClassDojo Platform to Break the Law

  • Do not sell or distribute controlled or regulated goods on the platform. This includes attempts to sell or distribute things such as drugs (vape pens, marijuana, or other controlled substances), weapons (knives, firearms, etc), or any other regulated good such as alcohol.
  • Do not distribute illegal material or encourage illegal activities. This includes any content that would be unlawful to possess, such as Child Sexual Abuse Material (also known as CSAM), content that relates to human trafficking (i.e., content designed to recruit, transfer, or harbor a person), fraudulently obtained financial information (such as credit card numbers), or distributing malware.
  • Do not post content related to multi-level marketing schemes. This includes businesses labeled as “affiliate marketing” or “home-based business franchising”.
  • Do not post content that infringes a third party’s intellectual property. Posting copyrighted material is okay, as long as you are not attempting to claim that you own this material or attempt to profit from it.

Respect your Fellow Users on ClassDojo

  • Do not engage in or facilitate harassment of other users. This includes continuing to engage with a user in any way they feel unwanted, or attempting to solicit other users to do so.
  • Do not threaten to harm another user, group of users, or organization. This includes both direct and indirect threats, as well as threats that are meant in a joking manner. Credible threats may be reported to the appropriate authorities.
  • Do not share Personally Identifiable Information about another person without their consent. This includes posting information such as a user’s full name, their home address, or their email address.
  • Do not engage in bullying. This includes content targeted against a person that contains a threat, is humiliating or degrading, or otherwise could be perceived as mistreatment by that person.
  • Do not use hateful language or engage in other hateful activities. This includes the usage of hateful language (such as racial slurs) or hateful imagery. ClassDojo will consider any content that attacks another user or promotes violence against a person or group of people based on legally protected characteristics.
  • Do not promote or support violent ideologies. This includes showing support for past or present organizations that support violence or other extreme acts.
  • Do not post any content that shares or normalizes child sexual abuse. This includes posting content that contains the sexualization of an apparent minor, or sexualizing another user’s content that contains an apparent minor.
  • Do not post sexual content or attempt to solicit another user to do so. This includes posting any sort of pornographic content, sexualized or other intimate imagery, or sexualizing content that is not inherently sexual.
  • Do not post content that promotes or glorifies self-harm, including suicide. This includes encouraging another user to self-harm, posting imagery or self-harm, or otherwise glorifying or normalizing self-harm behaviors. Self-harm behavior includes a person cutting, burning, or otherwise intentionally harming their body.
  • Do not post any content that shows violence, whether real or simulated. This would include any content that depicts violence or gore, whether the content is of real-world occurrences or from media such as a movie, TV show, or video game.
  • Do not post content encouraging others to engage in dangerous stunts or challenges. This includes content which encourages, promotes, or provides instructions for a challenge or stunt which could result in injury to the person who does it, or to someone else.
  • Do not post content that shames or otherwise stigmatises body types or physical features. This includes eating disorder content promoting extreme diet and fitness, and ‘body checks’.
  • Do not attempt to solicit another user’s login information. Accounts should only be used by their owners, and attempting to maliciously gain control of another user’s account will result in action being taken on your account.
  • Do not post content that is deliberate misinformation or disinformation. This includes harmful conspiracy theories or attempting to intentionally misrepresent real-world events. (Please note, some content that violates this rule may also violate our stance on hateful conduct).
  • Do not impersonate or misrepresent yourself as another person. This includes representing yourself as a teacher of a school (real or fake), or as the parent or guardian of a child not in your care.
  • Do not redistribute the content of another user without their permission. This includes screenshots of messages, images posted to Story feeds, or any content shared on the ClassDojo platform by another user.
  • Do not attempt to encourage or facilitate a user violating our Terms of Service or Community Guidelines. Attempting to encourage or aid another user in violating any rules of our Terms of Service or Community Guidelines will also result in action taken against your account.

Respect the ClassDojo Platform

  • Do not post spam or commercial advertisements. Advertising your school’s bake sale, printing t-shirts for your child’s class, and taking donations for materials or other school-sponsored activities would not be considered a violation. Advertising a sale at a bakery you own that is not connected to the school would be a violation.
  • Do not upload malicious files or links. Distributing any form of malware or linking to malicious websites will result in action on your account. This includes linking to phishing sites or websites that install malware such as keyloggers, spyware, or other malicious software.
  • Do not access ClassDojo through automated means. This includes using bots or AI external to the platform to operate your account, scrape information from the platform, or otherwise interact with the platform in any way.
  • Do not impersonate ClassDojo employees. Attempting to impersonate a ClassDojo employee will result in immediate suspension of your account.

Reporting Violations

ClassDojo’s Trust and Safety Team monitors and reviews safety reports. If you see any content, activity, or user on the platform that you believe violates any of these guidelines, please report it to us. If you are using ClassDojo’s app through or at the direction of an educational institution, you can report the problematic content to that educational institution. Please note that we strongly discourage any vigilantism. This sort of behavior may result in users putting themselves at risk and may interfere with our own investigations. You can read more about reporting content to our team in our article here: How can I report inappropriate content that I see on ClassDojo?

As both the world and the ClassDojo platform evolve, we pledge to keep these community guidelines up to date in an effort to ensure our users have a healthy place for the education they love. These guidelines are not exhaustive, and we may still take action on any account we believe violates any of the core principles of our guidelines. Where we identify conduct or content that violates our guidelines, we may take actions, including removing the content in question or disabling the user account associated with that conduct or content.
