Keeping student information private is a top priority for us! No student’s account, portfolio, or Outside School Child User profile is made available or visible to the general public through ClassDojo. See what is visible to teachers and parents who are connected to a Student or Outside School Child User below. In addition, we have provided more information about who can see the messages and other content that parents may send to teachers (including in connection with any district access).
Student Users
A “Student” is a child who is using ClassDojo at the direction of a school either in school or at home for educational purposes connected to a school or classroom and whose school has a contractual relationship with ClassDojo. Please see our FAQ for more information.

What Can Student Users View About Other Users?
- Student Users cannot currently see any information contained within another Student User's portfolio or Student Account. However, if Class Text Code or Class QR Code logins are used by a teacher, students could inadvertently choose another child’s name from the list of names shown and view this child’s portfolio. Teachers have the option to use Individual QR codes or links specific to each student for private and individual login purposes to prevent this.
- Comments (if turned on) and Likes on Class Story and School Story posts of any student who posts. Teachers must first choose to turn on the Story commenting feature for students. In addition, teachers have the ability to turn off the Story commenting feature for parents and can delete any individual user comment. If any user needs to report any abuse or inappropriate content on a Class Story or School Story that has not been addressed by the connected teacher or school, they may do so by filling out our reporting form.
- First name and last initial of classmates
- Classmates’ avatars
- If a teacher displays their teacher account publicly in class, then students may see other students’ total Feedback Points (but not individual Feedback Points).
- Dojo Islands (see below)
Outside School Child Users
When a child is using ClassDojo not in connection with a teacher, school, or classroom-like certain features within ClassDojo Plus-we call this an “Outside School Child User.” For more on this, check out our FAQ. Any data collected from Outside School Child User would not be considered Student Data. ClassDojo permits Students to associate an Outside School Child Account with their Student Account by using the same login credentials associated with an Outside School Child Account to join a class or use the account for school-directed learning.
What Can Parent Accounts View?
- Child name and avatar
- Home points and rewards given through ClassDojo Plus. Please note: Teachers cannot see points or rewards given at home.
-
Feedback Points given by teachers at school within the last 365 days, (if teachers have chosen to share points with parents and the child is also using ClassDojo in school).
- If an Outside School Child Account and Student Account exist for the same child, Feedback Points are shown within the Outside School Child User account as well, since the accounts are linked together and accessed using one login. The accounts use the same login to access both home and school information, but the information is stored separately.
- Home Points, Goals, and Routines
- Some parents may have access to Home Points, Goals, and Routines, a Premium Feature available through ClassDojo Plus that supports families in encouraging their children’s daily habits and responsibilities at home. Parents can create customizable daily routines—such as chores, homework, or bedtime tasks—and award Home Points when their child completes them. These points and associated goals are only visible to the connected parent account(s) and the child’s Outside School Child Account and are not accessible to the child’s teacher or other students. Parents can also set Goals and create Rewards to celebrate progress, all of which remain within the parent-child home experience.
- Sparks is a reading feature designed for children using ClassDojo at home through an Outside School Child Account. Only the child and their connected parent can see Sparks activity (like story progress or favorites). Sparks is not part of school-based Student Accounts and isn’t visible to teachers or other children.
What Can Other Children View?
- Outside School Child Users cannot currently see any information about other Student Users unless they are logged in using ClassDojo as a Student User (i.e. connected to a class).
- Outside School Child Users cannot currently see any information from another Outside School Child User utilizing ClassDojo at home, including with ClassDojo Plus features. However, they will be able to view certain content within Home Islands as set forth below.

Dojo Islands
“Dojo Islands” is a virtual world where kids can safely engage in various activities (e.g., play certain games, learn, explore, and build) and interact with other children. Dojo Islands include both Class Islands and Home Islands as defined below.
Class Islands
If a Student is connected to a teacher who has chosen to allow their Students to access Dojo Islands in the classroom, this is our “Class Islands” product. In Class Islands, Students interact with other classmates with their Student Account

Home Islands
Dojo Islands can also be used at home (not connected to a school) with an Outside School Child Account (“Home Islands”) once a parent has given consent (including to the sharing of limited data between Class Island and Home Islands). Please see our Children's Privacy Policy for further details. Parents can disable Home Islands for their child. This will prevent them from using Home Islands outside of school, but will not affect the use of Class Islands in school. Children will be able to distinguish between a Home Island and a Class Island. For more information, see our FAQ.
What Can Other Children View on Home Island with an Outside School Child Account?
- Children can visit Home Islands where they can move around as their monster avatar and engage in various activities.
- Children can see other monsters, including children in their class and schoolmates of the same grade, and can see how other children in their class perform in various activities (such as their scores in activities) in Home Islands.
- Children can see the first names and last initial of other children from class, if that child's parent gave consent. If that child's parent did not give consent, and they joined through a guest link, they will be listed as a guest and won't be able to see any names.
- They cannot see Feedback points or Home Points for other Student Users or Outside School Child Users
- Children will be able to complete activities to earn additional monster parts.
- Children can see when their classmates and other connections are online, so that they can play together.
Child Home Island Guest Users
Guest child users that do not otherwise have a ClassDojo account in connection with either home or school use may also be invited by a current Home Island child user (e.g. via a QR Code) to enter Home Island (“Home Island Guest Users”). Home Island Guest Users will have limited functionality and ClassDojo will either (1) not collect any personal information from such Home Island Guest Users or (2) only collect limited device or other persistent identifiers (e.g. IP address ) that may be considered personal information (and not further collect any other personal information of the Home Island Guest User) solely for providing support for the internal operations (as that term is defined under COPPA) of Home Island (e.g. to authenticate the Home Island Guest User). ClassDojo will ensure that such persistent identifiers are not used for unauthorized purposes outside of support for the internal operations (as that term is defined under COPPA) through training, data access, data segregation, and storage.
What can Home Island Guest Users See?
- The specific Home Island they were invited to — no access to other islands.
- The inviter’s name only (no other kids' names)
- Any content on that island, excluding other kids' names or identifiable info.
How Can Children Interact With Each Other?
- Children can see other children in their class and their Avatars in Dojo Islands. They can play with each other on the island.
- Children currently cannot communicate other than through basic movement or choosing from a selection of pre-defined emoji or chat responses.
- They can build using blocks in a personal build zone or map and invite members of their Islands to play on their map. They can choose to let other Island members build on their personal map.
- They can play Dojo activities such as Tag, Paint Playground, and Our Town.
- Please check back here as Dojo Islands evolve to see other ways your child may interact with other children.

Who Can View Messages Sent by Parents to Teachers?
In addition to the child’s teacher, certain non-teacher school officials—such as School Leaders, Admins, and District personnel—may also access messages and interactions involving parents through the District Dashboard, depending on their role and permissions. Specifically, authorized Admins may export message histories for transparency, record-keeping, or compliance purposes. These exports can include messages exchanged between parents and teachers, as well as messages between parents if Parent-to-Parent messaging is enabled in that district, which are not viewable by the school. While this visibility is limited to users with elevated access and governed by legal and contractual restrictions (such as FERPA and any Student Data Privacy Addendum in place), it’s important for parents to know that their communications on ClassDojo may be accessible to school or district officials in accordance with school policy and applicable law. Parents’ use of ClassDojo’s Home experience—such as Goals, Home Points, Sparks, or other non-school features—remains private to their account and is not visible to district personnel unless explicitly shared or exported through authorized means.
What Student or Outside School Child Account Information Can be Seen in Family Chats or Family Communities?
